How to Choose a Dog Bed?

Pieski Dwa Size Guide: How to Choose the Perfect Bed Size for Your Dog

When decorating our homes, we take care with every detail—the soft weave of the rug, a comfortable armchair, warm, diffused light. Your dog may not analyze the design, but they sense it with their whole being. For them, luxury means a fabric texture that doesn’t irritate their nose, just the right softness underfoot, and some peace and quiet. Their bed isn’t just another item on the floor. It’s a private island of calm, a safe haven after a long walk full of fascinating scents, and a place to shamelessly stretch their paws up in the air or curl up into a tight little croissant, feeling completely safe.

There are, however, plenty of myths surrounding the choice of the right size. “My dog weighs 10 kg, so they definitely need a size M”—this is one of the most common oversimplifications. But in the world of dogs, weight is just one of many things to consider.

Before we get into specific measurements, let’s look at the issue from a purely anatomical perspective.

Why isn’t your dog’s weight enough to go by? (The importance of individual build)

Every dog has a different story and a different build. Weight can be misleading. Imagine an elegant, slender Greyhound. They might weigh exactly the same as a stocky, muscular French Bulldog. But the Greyhound has long, seemingly endless legs and needs a much longer bed when they want to stretch out comfortably. The Bulldog, on the other hand, despite their considerable weight, is relatively short and compact—they’ll be fine in a smaller, snugly enclosed space.

So here’s a simple rule: the breeds and weight ranges we list are only a general guide. What matters most is your friend’s individual shape and size.

How to measure your dog correctly: a simple tape-measure trick

Instead of guessing, grab a tailor’s tape measure while your dog is taking a nap.

  1. Measure them from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail.

  2. Measure them at their highest point while lying on their side (from their back to the tips of their paws).

  3. Add around 10–15 cm to the measurements you get. This is the ideal minimum allowance, giving them the freedom to choose how to sleep—whether they feel like curling up into a croissant or stretching out like a bowstring.

Snug comfort with soft, enclosing sides

This is a classic design, with sides that create a safe, enclosed nest. Dogs love this model because the high sides provide natural head support—they work a little like our favorite pillow.

Two measurements are key for the Premium Sofa: the overall dimensions (how much floor space the bed will take up) and the inner dimensions (the actual usable space where your dog lies).

Model: Premium Ciabatta Cushion

The ultimate in unrestricted freedom

The Ciabatta offers a completely different approach to rest. There are no traditional, rigid sides here—just an open, incredibly plush mattress area from edge to edge. Your dog has the full surface to themselves. They can lie across it or lengthwise, with nothing restricting their paws. It’s the perfect choice for canine “acrobats” who often change positions during the night and like to sleep fully stretched out.

  • Size S (60 cm × 50 cm)

    • For: A comfortable island for the tiniest dogs (up to 3–4 kg), ideal for minimalist interiors.

    • Example breeds: Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier, Pomeranian, Maltese.

  • Size M (70 cm × 60 cm)

    • For: Room to relax for dogs weighing 5–7 kg.

    • Example breeds: Jack Russell Terrier, Pinscher, Toy Poodle, Shih Tzu.

  • Size L (85 cm × 70 cm)

    • For: Full comfort and no barriers for dogs weighing 8–12 kg. Bulldogs and Beagles love to really “sprawl out” on it.

    • Example breeds: German Shepherd, Doberman, Belgian Shepherd, Alaskan Malamute.

Model: Round Dog Beds

Intuitive shape and care tips

Round beds naturally echo the shape of a safe, instinctive nest. Dogs who seek a snug embrace while sleeping and love to curl up into a perfect ball instinctively choose them.

Because of their particular construction, the round beds don’t come apart completely, but we’ve included a thoughtful feature. From size M upwards, the inner cushion can be fully removed (the zipper is hidden underneath). You can freshen up the cushion separately and put the rest of the bed in the washing machine. In the smaller sizes (XS, S), the cushion is sewn in, and the entire bed fits easily into a standard household washing machine drum.

  • Size XS (outer diameter 50 cm, inner diameter 25 cm | cushion sewn in)

    • For: The tiniest, delicate companions (up to 1–2 kg) who need a snug, safe retreat.

    • Example breeds: Small Chihuahuas, miniature Yorkshire Terriers.

  • Size S (outer diameter 60 cm, inner diameter 30 cm | cushion sewn in)

    • For: A cozy space designed for dogs weighing up to around 3 kg.

    • Example breeds: Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese, Pomeranian, and cats.

  • Size M (outer diameter 70 cm, inner diameter 45 cm | removable cushion with zipper)

    • For: A comfortable, round nook for dogs weighing 5–7 kg, also a popular choice with cats.

    • Example breeds: Jack Russell Terrier (smaller type), Miniature Dachshund.

  • Size L (outer diameter 85 cm, inner diameter 55 cm | removable cushion with zipper)

    • For: A comfortable, extra-large nest for dogs weighing 7–12 kg.

    • Example breeds: Standard Dachshund, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Poodle.

    • Example breeds: German Shepherd, Doberman, Belgian Shepherd, Alaskan Malamute.
